Welcome to the NCBA Professional of the Year Award Page
The North Carolina Biomedical Association in conjunction with GMI supports the Professional of the Year Award to be presented annually at the NCBA Symposium for a technician who has given personally and professionally to the field of Biomedical / Clinical Engineering as well as to their local community. This award is sponsored by GMI. The winner will receive a check for $1000, and a plaque identifying them as the NCBA Professional of the Year. We are looking for individuals who have made significant contributions in Professional Achievement, the Local Community and the Biomedical Community.
This recognition is given to the NCBA member that meets the criteria listed below.
The NCBA gratefully recognizes GMI for their outstanding generosity in support of this award.
Purpose: To recognize outstanding professional achievement, contribution to the
community, and contribution to the biomedical community.
Eligibility: Any NCBA (Individual) member in good standing. Current NCBA Board
Members are not eligible.
Award: NCBA Professional of the Year plaque plus a $1000 check, recognition at
the NCBA Business Meeting, recognition in the NCBA Newsletter, a letter to CEO of
the winner's organization and recognition in various professional publications.
Requirements:
Professional Achievement
Professional achievement activities are those actions
performed in the course of their day-to-day duty to their employer. Examples of
professional achievement are:

Assisted person in another department in a time of great need which clearly
placed the needs of others above their own. |

Performed assigned duties in an outstanding manner. |
| | |
Made significant contributions to the mission of the institution which were
clearly above and beyond the normal assigned tasks. |
Community Contribution
Community contribution activities include any activities which provide a significant
social, moral, economic, or educational benefit to the local community of the
nominee. Examples of community contribution are:

Organized a community-wide fund raising drive for a charitable organization. |
| | |
Contributed numerous hours to a charitable cause. |
| | |
Organized a community-wide educational program which improved or
contributed to the improvement of the community inhabitants. |
Biomedical Community Contribution
Biomedical community contributions are those activities which enhance the
professional biomedical community. Examples of contributions are:

Published articles in biomedical related professional journals, magazines,
or periodicals. |
| | |
Presentations at a biomedical organization functions. |
| | |
Participation in panel discussions at biomedical organization functions. |
| | |
Volunteer work assisting a biomedical organization. |
Submissions:
All applications will be made on form which can be downloaded below and submitted to the NCBA Board of Directors.
NOTE: Applications must be submitted to the NCBA Board of Directors so that they are postmarked no later than November 30th of the year of submission.

Judging:
NCBA Board members will score the individual submissions of each element on a
scale of 1 (low) - 5 (high) and sum the scores. Highest score wins. In the event of a
tie, the President of NCBA will cast a tie-breaking vote. A minimum score is
necessary for the award to be presented.
Presentation:
The award will be presented during the annual business meeting during the NCBA
Symposium, by the President of the NCBA. Each finalist will be introduced, brought
to the stage, and their accomplishments will be read aloud to the membership.
Following the reading of all accomplishments of each finalist, the winner will be
announced, and pictures taken. Copies of the pictures will be presented to the
winner, and included in the next months newsletter.
