Welcome to the Eddy Whisnant Scholarship Information Page
The Eddy Whisnant scholarship fund was established in 1991, by the North
Carolina Biomedical Association (NCBA) to provide acedemic scholarships to
students enrolled in the North Carolina Community College systems, Biomedical
Equipment Technology programs. The scholarship is administered by the NCBA
Scholarship Committee appointed annually by the board of directors of the NCBA. A
student must be working toward an Associate in Applied Science Degree in
Biomedical Equipment Technology.

Eligibility Criteria:

- Applicants must be enrolled in the second year of a Biomedical Equipment Technology program in the North Carolina Community College System.
- Applicants must be enrolled in the second year of a Biomedical Equipment Technology Program (BMET) in the North Carolina Community College System.
- Applicants must have successfully completed 35 semester credit hours in Biomedical Equipment Technology curriculum as printed in the current college catalog. Students with transfer credits for the first year must have completed the first year of the BMET program.
- The applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.25 after completing two (2) semesters, carrying a minimum of ¾ time in the BMET curriculum during both semesters. Verified by Official College Transcript.
- Applicants are eligible for a single scholarship for one (1) academic college calendar year during their second year. If at any time during the second academic year the student becomes ineligible, due to either a GPA below 3.25 or less than ¾ time status, the scholarship will be terminated and cannot be reinstated.
- Applicants must have the recommendation of the BMET Program Director and one (1) other instructor from the BMET curriculum (English Dept., Math Dept. etc.)
- No other scholarship, grants, or loans will be considered during the selection process.

Awards:

- A single scholarship will be limited to $1,000.00 per semester for a maximum of two (2) consecutive semesters.
- No more than one (1) scholarship will be awarded per academic year for
each North Carolina Community College which has a Biomedical
Equipment Technology program.
- Awards will be selected based upon GPA and recommendations.
- The winner(s) will be selected by the North Carolina Biomedical
Association's Scholarship Committee, whose decisions are final.
- The winner(s) will be announced at the NCBA business meeting during the
annual NCBA symposium. The first semester scholarship check will be presented to the winner(s) at that time.
- The following semester check will be issued after verification of scholarship status. Scholarship status will be verified by sending a copy of a completed semester grade report and a copy of the next semester's registration fee receipt (showing semester hours enrolled) to the Treasurer of the NCBA. The BMET Program Director will verify that the hours are in the BMET Program.
- North Carolina Biomedical Asssoication "Eddy Whisnant Scholarships" are
awarded without regard to race, color, ancestry, sex, religion, age, handicap
or veteran status.

Application Procedure:
To be considered for the Eddy G. Whisnant Scholarship, applicants must submit all application material to the North Carolina Biomedical Association Scholarship Committee by the first day of November. The applications must be postmarked by October 31 to be in consideration.
Application materials include:

- A completed application form (Submitted by applicant)
- An Official College Transcript showing completed first year work. Transcript
must have college seal on it (Submitted by applicant).
- Letters of recommendation (Submitted by program director and one other
program instructor).
- Verification by the program director (department head) that the student is at
least a ¾ time student in the second year of a North Carolina
Biomedical Equipment Technology curriculum.
